Bhagavad Gita Ch 1.41 - PindaDaan
The term 'PindaDaan' is derived from Pinda (cooked rice balls) and Udaka (water). These offerings are made to ancestors (Pitrus) to aid their liberation. The process involves first offering food to Lord Vishnu, turning it into Vishnu Prasad. When this sanctified food is offered to ancestors through mantras, it wipes away their sins.
Pindadaan is mandatory for every family for Expressing gratitude for the wealth, knowledge, and values inherited from ancestors and helping them overcome their suffering. Pindadaan is not just a ritual but a vital act of spiritual rescue and gratitude for departed ancestors.
